General Eligibility Criteria for Defensive Driving


Valid Driver’s License

You must have had a valid driver’s license at the time of receiving the ticket. If you received a companion citation for driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license, you will not be eligible for defensive driving.

Valid Auto Insurance

You must have had valid insurance at the time of receiving your traffic ticket. If you received a companion citation for not having proof of insurance, you will not be eligible for defensive driving, unless you can show proof to our office that you had valid insurance at the time of receiving the ticket.

Ineligible Offenses

Any of the following offenses will disqualify you from being eligible to take part in the Defensive Driving Program.

  • Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
  • Reckless Driving
  • Racing on Highway
  • Speeding in Construction Zone
  • Speeding 26 MPH over posted limit
